Issue 12 - September 2009

Its that time again, time to pack up, get everything together, get on the road again and start to make our way back down to New Zealand with a wee bit of Equine Touch in UK and USA along the way. I thought I would get this newsletter out to you now, as when we are on the road, time tends to be in charge, and moves a lot faster than I would like it to. The 'Equine Touch UK Season' which starts on the 11th at the Blue Cross in Burford and finishes on the 27th at Bristol Horse World will be exciting enough, but when you throw in the IETA Conference on the 19th and 20th at Newmarket Racing School, this will be a hectic time for Ivana and I. All I can say is thank you to the fabulous ET UK Team for preparing everything so professionally for us and of course for everyone involved with ET and the upcoming events. As usual over our summer 'break' we did not manage to complete all our tasks but we managed hopefully the most important ones, the new 'Mobilization and Stretching Manual', Ivana's Power Point Presentation, an all new, Level 3 practical manual, the new Instructor Practical manual, a completely new 6 module manual for VHT, a brand new concept and manual 'VHT for Family and Friends'. On top of that we also managed in the two months over here to teach some great students ET for horses and, humans. With VHT we have a very important announcement to make. I had originally intended to introduce it at the Conference, but have decided to let it 'all out' a little earlier in this newsletter, so that if anyone wants to chat to me about it while I am in the UK, they can have a one to one on what I am talking about. The new international web site is on the way, at least it was, I tried to do some editing last night and apparently 'broke it'. So I am waiting with bated breath this morning to see if my webmaster is still talking to me. This site which is a lot easier and far more comprehensive for the info surfer, is a wee bit beyond this broken down old wrestler.

By the way the photo on the right is not me - I wear a white stetson - but every time I get ready to transverse the globe his song just gets inside my mind. On top of that he loves horses.

Wise words for the week: The eyes lie, the touch tells' Ivana

Although Ivana and I 'officially' walked away from the human side of ET Bodywork way back in 2002, nevertheless we still continued to teach VHT and even Bowen when requested to in various countries and I still teach the advanced clinics in the UK and Europe to qualify practitioners. With the popularity of Equine Touch growing, more and more people are finding the benefits of VHT and even some with a thriving Equine Business have found that with just the little bits of human work they learned on the ET class they have built up a reasonable human clientele, which is excellent in these current financial times. Over the past two years I have been continually asked by ET instructors, VHT practitioners and students if I would train them and allow them to teach my work. While we already have a few excellent people in place who have 'hung in' with me over the years and through this experience been anointed as VHT instructors, we have never had an actual seminar devoted to training and qualifying Practitioners to becoming VHT Instructors. Not till now that is. As a result of all of those requests ETF will be presenting a VHT Instructor Seminar on July 12 thru to July 16 (5 days) 2010. The course will be held in Czech in the attractive city of Brno. Brno-link. The good news and the bad news. Firstly good news, we are limiting the size of the class to 14. The bad news is that already there are 10 confirmed places gone taken up by ET instructors who only just heard the news, so it is a race for these last 4 places. Be in to win!

COURSE CONTENT : Participants will learn to teach the first 4 modules in the VHT syllabus as well as the all new 'VHT for Family and Friends' which is an all new concept, featuring several new developed procedures in an encapsulated module which will be taught over 2 days to people who's focus is simply to help their loved ones. At the completion of the clinic all participants will be assessed and examined on a one to one basis by the founders and Jo Fernandez our most senior VHT Instructor. On successful completion of the course and assessments an official VHT Instructor licence will be issued.

REQUIREMENTS: These will vary from country to country, depending the VHT code of practice that has already been established in that country. Essentially the applicant will have to be a VHT practitioner in good standing. He/she will have to have at least one year of practice under their belt before attending this seminar, and can shown an ability to operate as a functioning practitioner and instructor. In the United Kingdom, please address all your enquiries to Jo Fernandez: JlFrnds@aol.com. All other countries contact Jock direct at equinetouchinc@aol.com for any further information you require or to discuss this project. Cost of the 5 day clinic - €1000.

Conference Countdown:

Only three weeks to go for the most important date on the ET calendar for 2009. The International IETA Conference at Newmarket Racing School. Its an event that you should all try, even you down under in New Zealand, to come to. It promises to be a great fun and educational weekend. Ivana is working like crazy and putting a great presentation together for you on Detox and other things after ET. One presenter both of us and all of you should be looking forward to is Gillian Higgins, equestrian and author of 'How your horse MOVES'. As well as some really interesting workshops, one on Self Defense for Girls. another on Osteopathy for Humans and Horses and how they both relate, as well as a Small Business Workshop, which should interest those of you on the practitioner and instructor track. Then we have an interesting class for those of you like Ivana and I just love looking into the eyes of the horse and trying to read what their inner soul is telling you. On on top of all of that they have lined up three horses for me to work on, all I understand with problems. Latest info shows we have visitors coming in from Sweden, Germany, Czech and across the water from Ireland. Hopefully we can get an ET party of some sorts going on the Saturday Night.

This is one event you should not miss, your committee and the NCC have slaved for months to make this happen and its not just about coming along to support them, its about getting stuck in and showing the horse world that ET people are really different, we really care about the horse. You have a voice now, it has integrity and its starting to be heard around the world, its called IETA, and it should be listened to. Look forward to seeing you there.

Make the horse curious: Don't just walk up and start doing 'Branding' picking up the leg and then doing ET. make the horse curious, make him ask you the question, "What the hell are you" . he does not care who you are, its what you are that is of consequence to him. All too often I have watched the horse switch off, zone out, pull down the curtain when a student just starts doing the 'stuff'. Once the horse is interested enough to ask you the question, and you are savvy enough to answer it correctly, you go into a little pigeon box that he will create for you. Not the big rubbish bin he keeps for every other person who just wants to walk up and put their hands on him.
My Equine Touch journey began in 2003 when I saw Jock give a demonstration on several horses at liberty in a small enclosure! The results for each were truly astonishing and I knew that what I’d seen was the next piece in the jigsaw of giving something back to my own horses. Prior to this life-changing encounter, I had competed heavily in Endurance and had been chosen on two occasions to represent my country in the sport. I had become increasingly concerned about the wear and tear on my horse’s body, and my inability to address it in any real way. I finally quit competitive riding to explore equine psychology and horsemanship, and an understanding of biomechanics. And neither my horses nor I have ever looked back! I became an Equine Touch practitioner in 2007, a licensed instructor in 2008 and am currently putting the final element in place to apply for my CT Instructors’ license. I absolutely love getting out and about to work on other people’s horses but my biggest passion lies in teaching them to do it for themselves; in short, helping them take their own steps on their exciting Equine Touch adventure. Courses are always filled with laughter and I am constantly inspired by what students achieve in just three days and how fired-up they are to begin offering this wonderful gift to their own horses. and cattle! I am now back on the Competitive Long Distance circuit, loving every minute of it but loving even more the fact that I can show others how they too can make a massive difference to their horse’s lives. It’s amazing how many conversations can open up as I am watched, working on my horse’s back, hamstrings or shoulders after a long day on the Scottish hills!
